Popduo Bauer has been around for 5 years now; the project was started by Berend Dubbe who left the successful Dutch group Bettie Serveert in 1999 to spend more time pursuing and exploring his more personal musical interests. He sold his drum kit bought a Roland digital 8 track recorder and recorded the first album called 'On The Move' (now a collector's item) the same year by himself under the name of Bauer (the name in fact originally a German 8mm film projector brand). While looking for a band to perform the music from 'On The Move' in a live situation Berend bumped into Sonja van Hamel, a well trained keyboard touchesse and cracking singer, who was not only happy to join the live band but also quite interested and determined to reform the one man band into a dynamic duo. Together they recorded the album 'Can't Stop Singing' in 2000 (on 'Partners in Crime' records in Holland and on 'Wabana' in the US), toured extensively, were given the prestigious Silver Harp Award and saw the album get high critical acclaim in Holland and abroad. Last year the new album 'Baueresque' (on Excelsior Recordings) hatched. An album full of soft psych synth pop, touched and influenced by classic acts as: The Free Design, Stereolab, Harper's Bizarre, Inner Dialogue, 70's film music, Sesame Street, Russian cartoon tunes, Todd Rundgren, Scott Walker, Richard Harris, Pet Shop Boys, Sergio Mendes, The Groop and Beach Boys, but still very unique and very much 'their own'. Bauer also makes music for films and commercials. Music for YOU, the so often hard to please fastidious listener and lover of the finer things in life. www.bauer-plaza.com (english) www.myspace.com/popduobauer Bauer at www.3voor12.vpro.nl (dutch with audio and video)
