Born Koen Lommerse in 1971, Koen 'Fu' started playing drums at the age of 5. Around the age of 17, while playing in several local groups, he picked up the guitar and started CITY PIG UNIT, best described as testosterone driven crossover-punk that quickly drew the attention of media and musicians, particularly the P-funk based group Gotcha! which he later joined and toured with extensively. Koen Fu managed to be the first Dutch hiphop artist signed by a major label releasing 'the beast from the east' in 1993 on Polydor.Together with some of his best mates from former groups Koen started The Chopshop,a project that grew to be the reggae-based group Beef. With Beef he received a 'Zilveren Harp' award for achievements up to 2002.The same year he was voted bassplayer of the year by Dutch Pop Institute. Now playing with Beef and producing and mixing groups, coaching and writing, he thrives to find a plateau for his drawing and graphic arts. Beef's newest release will hit the stores in January 2005 and is produced by Urban dance squad-drummer Michel Schoots.
