B.I.D.S.S. is Guido Nijs’ new band, formed in November 2003 as a special project for the 2004 November Music Festival. Guido Nijs (saxophone and fx), Frank van Leeuwen a.k.a Oktavius (turntables and beats) and Remko Kuhne (keys and fx) are B.I.D.S.S. main members and are usually joined by a set team of vj’s who go by the name of Stinkfinger (Bob Driessen en Dennis Buster). B.I.D.S.S. strives to combine contemporary beats of hip-hop and dance music with elements of improv. The looseness and freedom of jazz improvisation versus the energy of hip hop beats makes for an unorthodox but very interesting combination. The band’s music and arrangements are mostly written by the band members in collaboration with well-known Dutch jazz musicians such as bassist Eric van der Westen and pianist Jeroen van Vliet. In 2005 the band will join forces with Eric van der Westen’s band E-Quad and tour the Netherlands. www.e-quad.nl (english)
